‘Claire Cocano\u2019s Rue De\u0301sire\u0301 Chevalier<\/em> is a tender rumination on family, migration, and heritage. In the 1960s, Cocano\u2019s grandparents migrated from Yugoslavia to France, settling permanently in an apartment where, more than forty years later, they would witness the dissolution of their home country. Throughout the softcover volume, Cocano weaves together her own images with a mix of family photos, journal entries, letters and identity cards. These visuals are punctuated with two contrasting items: records of an employment rights agreement between Yugoslavia and France printed on translucent paper, and a series of fabric blueprints that unfurl to reveal recreations of Cocano\u2019s grandmother\u2019s embroideries. \u201cThe book design feels very intentional, unique,\u201d notes juror Negar Azimi. \u201cAs if you\u2019re entering an intimate zone\u2014a familial and spiritual excavation at once.’<\/p>\n
